Could you be our Water Warrior Award winner for 2023?
Are you working on water justice? Are you, your project or your organisation community-focused, tenacious and creative?
The Water Warrior Award is presented annually to an outstanding individual or organisation working with courage and conviction to improve water security for vulnerable communities around the world. The award seeks to recognise, thank and inspire those working fearlessly for water justice.
What do Water Warrior Award winners receive?
Water Warrior Award winners will receive up to £1000 of funding or in-kind support, such as IT or technical equipment. There will be one winner each year.
How do I apply to win a Water Warrior Award?
The submission period will be open 1st- 31st August 2023.
Please send a short email to lexiparfitt@waterwitness.org outlining the following:
• your name and contact details
• where you/your project/your organisation operates
• when your project/organisation was set up
• evidence of how you meet the criteria outlined below
Please note submissions sent outwith the August submission period will not be considered. The Water Warrior Award is only open to those working in the Global South.
Award selection criteria:
Any individuals, organisations or projects working to achieve a fair water future, where people can access the water needed to thrive and are protected against floods, drought, conflict and pollution can apply for a Water Warrior Award.
Applications should provide evidence of how their work meets the following:
1) Focused: Water Warriors are clear about what they are trying to achieve
2) Tenacious: Water Warriors are determined- they won’t give up easily and are able to provide evidence of this
3) Evidence of great efforts: Water Warriors can demonstrate their efforts and what they achieved as a result
4) Creative: Water Warriors come up with creative ideas to get results and can give examples of this, and what they achieved as a result
5) Community focused and authentic: Water Warriors will go the extra mile, and are committed to their goals
6) Duration of not less than one year: Water Warriors must have been working in their field or on their project for at least a year
Joint winners in 2022 were the Mudi River Clean Up group, Blantyre, Malawi, and Ecoton in Indonesia. Both organisations work on plastic pollution. Prigi Arisandi, founder of Ecoton, said:
“The Water Warriors award is amplifying our voice, expanding our global network, and supporting our actions in saving rivers from plastic waste pollution.
“We are very happy and touched by this award which is a tribute to our collective work to protect the rivers in Indonesia.”
