Climate Action
The climate crisis is a water crisis.
We’re working to build climate resilience in some of the world’s most climate-vulnerable communities, and campaigning for companies to ensure they are addressing climate risks like floods and droughts in their operations.
9 out of 10 climate disasters are water related
By 2050 1.6 billion people will be at risk of severe floods
1 in 4 people currently live in water scarce nations
in 20 years, that number will have doubled.
Climate Just Communities, Malawi
In Malawi, we are addressing the impacts of climate change and creating long-term, sustainable change within communities, by working with communities to identify their own priorities, empowering the most marginalised people within those communities to take action in building climate resilience, and supporting them to advocate for climate justice.
Our Climate Just Communities programme is funded by the Scottish Government.
BASIN programme, Malawi and Tanzania
We’re working with partners across Africa to research behaviour change and climate adaptation responses, to enable inclusive water security for the most climate-vulnerable communities. We’re helping train community members to know their water rights, and to campaign effectively for solutions to their water and climate problems.
Working with partners including London School of Economics, WaterAid, United Nations University Institute for Water and Health, Nelson Mandela African Institution of Science and Technology and Shahidi wa Maji, BASIN is funded by UK aid from the UK government and by the International Development Research Centre (IDRC), Ottawa, Canada as part of the Climate Adaptation and Resilience (CLARE) research programme.
