DR charles wight
director of research and policy
Charles is Director of Research and Policy at Water Witness, where he designs and communicates rigorous action research for addressing global water challenges. With over a decade of experience across NGO, academic, and development sectors, he brings deep expertise in geo-spatial science, freshwater conservation, nature-based solutions (NbS), and conservation economics.
Charles has previously worked as a consultant for the World Bank and Environmental Policy Innovation Center (EPIC) and as a Global Freshwater Scientist at The Nature Conservancy. His career spans roles as a consultant, researcher and project manager, collaborating with organisations including USAID, International Rivers, InfoAmazonia, and The Strauss Center for International Security and Law.
He has a PhD from the University of Oxford, where his research focused on using incentives to drive sustainable water management practices. He earned his master's degree from The University of Texas at Austin, and a dual bachelor's degree in Geography and Philosophy, and from from UT Austin.
